Before you jump ship you may want to look where your going....

I had been a long time fan of Icom and owned a number of there rigs, I
even had the IC-756Pro but I never liked the sound of the Pro (had a
cold artificial sound) I wound up selling it.

I tried the Elecraft K2, Nice rig but not quite ready for prime time
sold that one as well though I liked the sound better.

I bought a IC-718 as a fill in rig it was a great rig for the money and
I wound up giving it to my son, it fits his needs well.

So Here I was looking for a new Rig I considered the IC-756Pro II, but
my boss at work had two of them that both had to go back to Icom with
bad displays. The first one was at Icom for about 2 months and the
second was back to them for about a month. Two different batches with
bad displays and long repair times, that put Icom out of the running.

I had bought an amp from Ten Tec in 2002 and it had a bad transformer
(buzzing) right out of the box, they told me 4-6 weeks until I could
get a replacement, I wound up returning it and got stuck for the
shipping both ways on a product that was defective right out of the
box. They would not even exchange it. Sad too since I had hoped to do
more business with them, So Ten Tec has pretty much lost my business.
No Orion for me.

That pretty much left me with Kenwood or Yaesu I looked them both over
and chose the Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark-V Field. I've only had it a month
and so far I really like it.

It performs well and has a much more pleasing sound, May not have a
pretty scope like the PRO but it looks nicer and it sure is a heck of a
lot easier to work on than an Icom (Easier to Mod, Repair, etc.) I
have alfo found it is easier to use as well.

Plus if your Interested in 60 Meters forget the Pro II if I under stand
correctly the low pass filter cuts off around the 60 Meter band, sure
there only a few Channels now but in time it may become a real band.

I'm not defending Yaesu just pointing out that the other guys may not
be any better.

The funny part is that I did not like Yaesu for a long time (not by any
fault of Yaesu's). One day on a whim I bought a mobile rig from them
(FT-8900r) and found it easy to use and more logical than the Icoms,
that is what sold me on even trying the FT-1000 series.

Just something to think about.
