Hi Don,
I read your email with some concern and I don't
want this to wind up happening to me. I have some
question if you don't mind. But first I have to
say that I agree with you, turning up the AF
should not blow it out.
1. Were you using headphones? How well do the
phones match the radio? Do they require the
volume to be cranked up to begin with? I also
dabbled in the 160m contest. I use the Heil
Pro-Set Plus and I never need to crank past 11
O'clock or so even for the weakest signals.
2. Was the IPO on. (I hate this terminology -
what I'm really saying is was the pre-amp off).
3. Please excuse the personal nature of the next
question. It's about hearing. But since this
happened to you 3 times I have to ask. First let
me state that I am an old f*rt too and I know I
have considerable hearing loss myself from when I
was a young whippersnapper. Do you have hearing
loss?
I am apprehensive that this email is going to be
perceived as having hidden intent to defend Yaesu.
I assure you that is not my intention. I have a
new 1000mp that I am learning to use and I do not
want to duplicate your problem, even once. I'm
already not very happy with Yaesu now that I found
out from this list that I have to make a mod to
get the rig in compliance with FCC keying
requirements.
