[1000mp] Original FT1000MP Fault

Recently had the same problem.
First try the obvious. Tap the ptt to see if that stops it.
then unplug the mike to see if that works.
My problem was the shuttle mechanism in the main tuning knob.
There is a slide resistor on the ftont panel behind the main knob that is
moved by the shuttle ring behind the main tuning knob.
I took off the main knob and discovered that the thing had somehow stuck or
something.
I dis-assembled the thing after looking at it carefully and the re-assembled
it.
Fixed!
Look at it carefully it is sorta clever and you will need to put ALL the
parts back.

Subject: [1000mp] Original FT1000MP Fault

I sent the undernoted msg last April, but did not receive any
comments/suggestions. I'll try again, and hopefully it might be familiar to
one or two folks on this reflector :

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Excuse the bandwidth if this has been covered before. Only just subscribed
to reflector.

Twice in the last month (with little use in between) my MP has decided to
tune itself up in frequency, as if I were holding the UP button on the mic.
Both times this happened whilst in RX and there is no noticeable
consistency - instance 1 I was on 20m, and had mic, CW Key (and NA LPT1
keying), Rig Control all connected - instance 2 I only had the antenna
connected. Both times nothing could be done to stop the rig tuning itself.
Even switching off and back on, the MP would just tune up when power was put
back on. On the second occurance, on pressing AM, the MP stopped tuning
upwards, but was this just coincidence ??? Probably :-(

Rig is 1996 model FT1000MP.

Any help/hints/suggestions welcomed.

---------------------------------------------------
I have not used the rig much since, due to a house move, and only being QRV
for contests, but I did take it with me to EU010 for the IOTA contest and
the tune up fault re-appeared several minutes after the contest started.
Rig was quickly replaced by a stand-by TS850.
