I thought half the fun was modifying the rigs ;)

It does not even feel like it is my rig until I have cracked the case
open and made at least one change.

Yes yaesu could have and should have fixed the problem, but that would
have pushed the price up, and remember they are trying to compete in
marketplace too.

Years ago my father was an engineer and sometimes someone from upper
management would come down and say that there competitor can build this
item for X amount of money less, and then tell him to take X amount of
money out of his item so they can sell it for the same price.

I don't think they would sell as many radios if they cost more due to
the engineering changes that everyone wants.

After all were hams and were supposed to know the electronics end of
this as well.

I realize that for some this is hard to do due to poor eyesight, poor
motor control, etc. for them I'm sure there are others would could help
them.

I have actually found this one of the easier modern radios to work on!
