If you're using a spectrum analyzer, you must use a wide filter in the
receiver to see a wide spectrum.  A clean CW signal should only occupy
less than 0.5 kHz of BW at the, say, -60 dB points (or greater!).

If you're listening for key clicks, set the receiver to a narrow CW
filter.  For a clean CW signal, you should not hear any clicks outside of
the receiver's passband.
