Rise time alone doesn't determine the degree of
clicking. The best envelope shape for CW is one that
has no sharp corners. An exponential curve always
starts with a sharp corner so will not yield least
bandwidth.

I recently upgraded upgraded from the INRAD mod to the
W8JI mod on my MkV. It provided another factor of
two decrease in bandwidth as determined by listening
on another rig (with the input attenuated and the AGC
switched off to preclude receiver artifacts from
affecting the measurement).

Most notable was the decrease in the first click,
which was significantly more prominent with the INRAD
mod.

I'm happy with the result but I see it as somewhat of
a lost cause. Virtually all rigs click (my MkV is
now, by far, the least clicky of the rigs I have) and
I'd be really surprised if more than 1% of MPs ever
get the mod.
