I have contacted Jim Smith at Burghardt radio in Watertown, SD. They =
have
done both the INRAD front end mod and the INRAD key click mod on radios =
that
they have sold --- when it was requested by the purchasers. He said =
that he
would be willing to do these mods as service work for persons who did =
not
buy their radios from Burghardt. He is studying the W8JI mod, and feels =
they
could do that as well since the bulk of the effort is to get at the RF =
and
IF boards. He will also look at the OH1NOR mode since that is very =
similar
to the others. Burghardt has all of the soldering equipment, skills and =
test
equipment to check out the radio after modification.=20
He will advise me of the prices for the various mods and provide a =
package
price if people want to have the INRAD front end mod and one of the key
click mods done at the same time. I expect to have an answer within a =
day or
so.
I think this may make it possible for folks to get their radios =
"improved"
without the worry of inflicting damage if they do the work themselves.=20
Jim did say they had done a few 'recovery' operations on key click mods =
that
did not turn out correctly when done by the owner of the radio. He said =
that
in some cases the damage was sufficient that it was a significant =
repair. I
suppose there are folks who really did try to use their 100 watt iron to =
do
the job. (Hard to imagine). Anyway, once I have the answer and have my =
unit
at UPS on the way to South Dakota I will pass along the information. (No
reason to let someone get ahead of me in the queue).
