[1000mp] FT1000MP wont talk to my computer

When I first connected my FT1000mp to a computer many years ago, 
I used a direct cable  1-1. 2-2 etc., and nothing worked.
I even returned the radio to Yaesu, but they did not find anything wrong.

Some time later, while visiting a radio shack store, I found another
configuration of
RS-232 cable.  I tried it and everything still works fine.  Seems like two
wires were switched..
(maybe rxd and txd) but I may not be remembering correctly.

I do not know if this was a null modem cable or what, but it might be worth
trying before taking more drastic steps.
