N3DRK commented "The thing I would be concerned about Dave is a station
close by while you are at 400 Hz and the signal start pumping your agc. In
that case I dont think the edsp at 120 or even 60 would help. That is when
the 250 hz would come in."
AGC pumping could be eliminated by using the shift and width controls with
the 500/400hz filter pair. The 250hz filter pair are certainly nice to
have, but not absolutely necessary in this case. It pays to be proficient
with the shift/width controls in a variety of qrm circumstances. Using the
1.8khz pair, I often will take the bandwith down even further in crowded ssb
contests with shift/width.
