Why would pitting the Mark V Field against the TS-870 be "interesting"?

Having owned both rigs, I can say there would be absolutely no competition-
an unmodified TS-870 would lose in every category except possibly transmit
audio and receive sensitivity. The 870 is a nice rig, but it pales in
comparison in almost every way to the Field.

The 950SDX would fare well against the Field, but the 870 isn't in any way
comparable to the Field.
