John,

Narrow crystal filters with steep skirts will have a ringing problem
with noise pulses and they generally have ripple within the bandpass. 
Collins mechanical filters tend to ring much less and have a very FLAT
bandpass.

OBTW  Collins Radio is very much still in business supplying high end
avionics to the US Government as well as  components such as mechanical
filters.
