Unfortunately, because of Yaesu's brain dead firmware, the MKV=20
series cannot properly use the 1.8/500/250 Hz filters for digital=20
modes. The front panel filter selection limits one to the choice=20
of 2.4/1.8/500 or 2.4/1.8/250 filters. =20
Unless you have a burning need for the 250 Hz filters (RTTY DX or=20
RTTY contesting), set menu 5-4 - dAtAnAr2 to 500H and in digital=20
modes NOR -> 2.4 Khz, NAR1 -> 1.8 KHz, Nar2 -> 500 Hz. =20
To make use of a second set of narrow filters (e.g., 250 Hz), one=20
needs to use computer control:=20
1) MPFilters is a stand alone utility that will select any filter=20
combination (see the software page at: www.va3cr.net). =20
2) DXLab's rig control aapplication Commander will allow arbitrary=20
filter selection for day to day operation (www.qsl.net/dxlab)=20
in association with one of the most complete and flexible log=20
programs available. =20
3) For contesting, the N1MM Free Windows Logger (www.n1mm.com)=20
can be configured to allow selecting between any two of the=20
1800/500/250 Hz filters. =20
I honestly don't know what Yaesu were thinking when they chose the=20
filter selections for digital modes on the MKV ... and continue=20
to stonewall a fix (it's nearly as bad as the CW key click issue
that has existed in every Yaesu radio for the last 15 years)!
