After adding the Inrad front end mod, which adds some gain to the first
IF stage, you turn down the IF gain 2 or 3 counts in menu item 9-1
thereby reducing the IF hiss heard in the audio while the ESDP is turned
off, but the hiss is still noticeable.

The K9AN bonus capacitor mod corrects a Yaesu error in the audio RC
filter circuit and further decreases the hiss you hear to where it is
neglible.  The new capacitor affects only the CW mode.

The hiss is noticeable when you are in the CW mode while using narrow
filters.

It it quite easy to tack/solder the bonus capacitor in parallel with the
existing capacitor and I recommend that you do it.
