[1000mp] Key Clicks -- My MP Experience

For what it's worth... I have a 1998-vintage MP. I have incorporated
the W8JI mod. Here are a couple of interesting anecdotes.

1. Before I did the mod (perhaps a year ago), I occasionally asked some
of my good CW buddies to listen for clicks on my signal. I have a CW
QSO almost every morning on 80M with a group of guys. One of them lived
about two miles from my house, and another lives about 60 miles away.
Both of them tried to listen carefully by tuning around, and said they
didn't hear any clicks. I don't know whether they were just afraid to
offend me, or if I really didn't have any clicks.

2. I listened to my own signal with my spare rig (TS-520S). I listened
to my MP signal without any antenna connected to the 520, and tried to
set it for about an S9 on my signal. This rig has a 500 Hz. CW
filter--the only choice. I could definitely hear some clicks when the
signal was outside the filter's passband.

3. After performing the W8JI mod, my CW friends still reported no
clicks on my signal, and they also reported that they didn't hear any
softening or degradation of the CW dits (we do anywhere from 30 to over
45 wpm). So for my use, I think the W8JI mod is fine as far as QRQ is
concerned.

4. I did some IN/OUT tests of the W8JI mod, using my TS-520S. It
definitely did reduce the key clicks several S-units.

So for me, I'm glad I did the mod. It didn't do anything bad, and it
probably did some good.

Hi Dean,

I am finding the same as you. I cannot hear clicks
on my Mk-V Field using a second receiver.
Also, others have confirmed that I do not have key clicks!!!
