Yes, that would be the purpose for making the change. If that same
station were, say 20 kHz away ... you might see no difference between
the stock 15 kHz roofing filters and the aftermarket unit. Inside the "new
window" (from say 4 kHz out to 15 kHz) is where there might be user
observed advantages. The scene you describe would be one such case.
Not only would the noise blanker function better ... so will everthing else
such as the AGC/etc. ... With a smaller "front end window" ... less things
enter into the dynamics of impacting the rest of the receiver chain.
