I had an Orion but I didn't like a number of things about it, so I sent
it back and got a refund. IMHO, my FT-1000MP was far superior for DXing
and contesting. My IC-756Pro II however, is my radio of choice for those
activities.

As I said above, I prefer the IC-756Pro II. It's cost is actually less
than an MP MKV with a full set of filters. Although it's IMDDR3 and BDR
is not as good as the MP series, I get rid of any problems by cranking in
12 dB of front panel attenuation. Even like that, it still has plenty of
I.F. gain to still dig those weak ones out of the noise. My MP requires
only 6 dB of attenuation to get rid of IMDDR3 problems, but it just
doesn't have the "guts" with any attenuation cranked in to hear the weak
ones.

Additionally, the Pro II's DSP noise reduction is far more effective than
my MP's, and the audio output sounds much more crisp and cleaner than the
MP's (which sounds "mushy" in comparison).

Today I sold my Pro II and ordered a Pro III. Don't know, but I'm hoping
that'll be an improvement. I was going to wait for the FTdx9000, but the
price tag scared me off.
