Ten db is quite a bit.  Like going from 100 watts to 1000 watts.

If you understand what the roofing filter does then it's easy to see 
how going from a 12 khz wide roofing filter to a 4 khz wide one will 
improve receiver performance in the pileups and contests.  If you are a 
rag chewer weekday afternoons then save your money.
