[1000mp] 'Alternate VFO' question

Good evening, all!
I've got a rather obscure VFO question for the MarkV users out there.
One thing this rig has that my FT990 doesn't is the 'Alternate VFO
Operation' - essentially two VFO 'memories' for each band. Press 14/5 once
and you get to the last 20m frequency/mode/filter/etc. you were on. Press it
again and you get the one before that. I really like this.
The problem is, I'm having difficulty changing frequency using the numeric
keypad without hosing the 'other' VFO setting. Here's an example:
The radio is on 14.150 USB. I want to change to 14.025 CW. It seems I have
two ways to do this:
Press CW - VFO frequency changes to 14.150.70 because my pitch is 700Hz.
Type ENT+14025+ENT - radio goes there.
For my new frequency and mode, all is well. But if I press the 14/5 button
the VFO goes to 14.150.70 CW when I would prefer it to be 14.150 USB - my
starting point.
If I enter the frequency first, I have to adjust it after setting the mode
to CW:
Type ENT+14025+ENT - radio goes there.
Press CW - frequency goes to 14.025.7 and I have to adjust.
Actually, this isn't as much of a problem for me with manual changes - I
noticed it because of some CAT programming I'm doing. I can't seem to get a
sequence down that changes frequency & mode without hosing the 'alternate
VFO'.
One idea I had was to write my intended freq/mode to a memory and then
recall the memory, but I can't write to a memory directly - I have to go
thru the VFO which will cause the same problem.
Any ideas?
73!
