I think Bob Curry was the guy who originally explained the class a and heat relationship on the yahoo group. Thanks for posting it.
If the PA unit in the mk V were not $700 to replace (that's what I heard it cost) I'd be more inclined to experiment with class A.
I will say that the transistors yaesu uses must be pretty rugged as I have gotten the heat sink hot enough to cook breakfast on, and the transistors still seem to be fine.
