Hi Chris,
Glad to see that you solved your problem. Yes the cables between rig and computer are the weak point in the system. I've had similar things happen here too, mainly my cats jiggling the wires!

  Hi Thomas,

Again thanks for your help. There is, I think, a happy ending here! I
did a hard reset but it didn't seem to do the trick. While finishing off
the third leg of SARTG I happened to bump my laptop and noticed that the
power output dropped again. What I determined is that the AFSK issue was
due to a falty aidio out cable between my laptop and rig. When I jiggled
it I could replicate the behaviour. I replaced the cable and haven't
noticed and issues with the rig! So problem number one is fixed I think.

With respect to phone, I'm still testing, but I am also seriously
wondering if there isn't an issue with the MH-31. Perhaps there was a
loose connection? It's so strange that both occurences happened
simultaneously it would lead to one to assume it was someting in the rig
  ... Murphy's Law I guess!! Anyway, I haven't noticed the issue for a
  couple of days.

What finally occurred to me is that the Mark V is a computer with a radio built in and my problems were occurring after power surges and brownouts.
  > I wrote down all of my menu settings, saved my memories to the MPMem software written by K6SE, did the hard microprocessor reset and all was well. I then purchased a third APC UPS model 350 and placed my V Field on it to protect the rig from the power vagaries and have had no more bugaboos. An added bonus is that the UPS will allow me to use my rig for low power QRP and CW work during emergencies when power fails.

By using it you "may" be able to reduce the RFI problem, by forcing current in both sides of your feedline to be "more" balanced. Of course though on certain bands at certain powers the BALUN "could" saturate and create problems.
