[1000mp] Filters in Sub RX

Hello Dave and all,

There is one more option for sub-receiver CW filter I use.

It is: no filter installed at all.

I am not a contester but sometimes I work DX stations on CW in pileup with
split. I have my radio audio output connected to computers sound card with
stereo cable. I have made the small program which displays audio spectrum of
signal received by both receivers in separate window. Usually the main
receiver window spectrum range is set to max. 1000 Hz because filter
bandwidth is in the range of 500 Hz and it helps to properly tune-in into
stations frequency when working without split. Sub-receiver window frequency
range I have set to max. 3000 Hz and when working split I can tune
sub-receiver and observe some portion of pileup. Amplitude characteristic of
FT-1000MP radios sub-receiver in CW mode is peaking around 700 Hz so the
program has correction option to make it flat. With this setup I can easly
find current correspondent, find a free space to call or to learn DX station
style of operation. Sometimes I even do not need to listen to sub-receiver
audio, watching the screen is enough.

Drawbacks of this solution are:
1) poor quality SSB filter in sub-receiver so strong signals on opposite
sideband can appear on screen,
2) AGC can not be switched off in sub-receiver and strong signals can mask
weaker ones,
3) continuously blinking screen is very tiresome so I have put program icon
on system tray and I can run it immediate with one mouse click only when I
need.

I have used the program for few years and I have found it very useful for
me. You can downlod it from Doug's WebSite www.va3cr.net .

Good luck,

Peter, SP5CFD
