Hi Dave,
I am not familiar with the MP; I drive my Quadra with an IC-746Pro2. The
MP's RF output should be set just above the level required to drive the
Quadra to 400W output (to meet RA regulations.)
You can follow the ALC setting procedure in the Quadra instruction manual,
with the MP set for approx. 60W output. Once you have calibrated the ALC for
400W CW output from the Quadra, you can turn down the exciter's RF output
until the Quadra output just begins to drop, then turn it back up until the
Quadra levels at 400W.
The compression control should be set for no more than 3 to 5 dB
compression, to minimise distortion.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [1000mp] help setting up for SSB contesting
Hello All
I am primarily a CW to extent that My MP has probably only been used for a
couple of dozen contacts on SSB, compared with the 100,000+ CW ...
with this in mind, any helpful advice welcomed on how best to set the rig up
for Transmit in an upcoming SSB contest.
Level of drive and compression etc. - it will be driving my Quadra.
TIA
73 de Dave - G3YXX
to all my CW friends - I hope I haven't lost too much cred!!!!!
