Glenn -- I have a Quadra and have had a 30L-1 in the past. After
considering the pros and cons, I'd select the 30L-1.

Cost: Quadra $3,000 to $4,000; 30L-1 $600 to $800.

Power: Quadra 1000w out, 30L-1 600w out (CW rating).

Control switching: Quadra, you should use a keying relay to protect the
keying circuit in the Quarda; 30L-1 works as built.

ALC: Quadra, adjustable from front panel and will probably work ok (but
maybe not?); 30L-1 works as built.

Bandswitching: Quadra, cumbersome on the Quarda because the bandswitch is
"automatic" and requires you to transmit to "sense" the desired frequency;
30L-1 manual switch.

Physical size: Quadra has two cabinets both larger than a 30L-1; 30L-1
small and compact with built-in power supply.

Dependability: Quadra solid-state finals should work for years, but repairs
will be expensive; 30L-1 uses inexpensive 811A's and common components.

Other Quadra features: Quadra has a 4-port antenna switch, but you lose the
"automatic" switching because no band-data is available from the Collins
exciter. Quadra has built-in wattmeter display.

In my opinion the Quadra is a perfect match for the 1000mp and the 30L-1 is
a perfect match for the S-line.

I'm debating whether to go that route or purchase a 30L-1. All points of
view welcome.
