[1000mp] Memory keying

Hi all you out there.
Hope someone can help me.
I have built the remote control unit, using sw's and resistors so that I =
can use the memory keying features of my 1996 FT1000mpdc.
All seems to work fine except the serial no send, serial no increment =
and serial no decrement.
I have tried altering all the parameters in the menus, ie 7-3 and 7-6 =
but still can't get it to send any contest serial numbers.
I have noticed a funny feature in that the rig needs to have CW selected =
on the mode button before switch-on for the inbuilt keyer to function, =
if your in ssb and switch on 13.8 volt power, then select cw, the keyer =
will not work !!!!
I have a feeling that this maybe common in older rig's ?????????
Hope there is someone out there that can point me in the right =
direction.
