[1000mp] Rtty not working on Mark V

I have not yet been able to get the Mark V to key rtty - that is make mark to space transitions.
To divide and conquer the problem I have made a simple connection to the RTTY jack on the back directly.

Using this simple technique, when I get the rig to key tones properly it will be simple to connect it to an interface.
I have several ways to do this but none of them are any good at all if something is wrong with the basic rig.

In RTTY mode, connecting pin 3 (PTT) to ground (4) should key the rig - it does.
Then, touching pin 1 (FSK) to ground should change the carrier from a mark to a space - it does NOT.

Wouldn't this mean that something is wrong with the FSK circuit?
