No one seems to be answering your question so I will say that a voice keyer
cannot
keep a switch from detenting (detenting describes a physical property),
unless of course
you had the physical keyer and/or cord wrapped around the microphone, which
I doubt
was the case.  Now electrically speaking, which I believe was the problem
here, the
incorrect wiring can cause the frequency scanning even though the mechanical
switch
would detent back to the neutral position.  Glad the problem was resolved.
