[1000mp] MkV Creates Noise

I am in the process of installing HF antennas and I erected a random piece
of wire to tune around on my new MkV. I was disappointed to only hear noise
and attributed it to the recent solar disturbances. However, I was very
surprised to hear some signals on my FT-847 and FT-100D while they were
connected to the same random wire.

Thinking that the MkV was incorrectly adjusted, I performed a total reset of
the radio for the factory default settings, yet the situation did not
improve and the FT-100D was still receiving signals not audible on the
MkV.

Later, while the FT-100D was receiving strong signals on the random wire, I
wanted to hear the same signals on the MkV and switched on the FP-29 power
supply. As soon as the power supply came to life, hash appeared on the
FT-100D and reduced the signal strength. Then more hash appeared on the
FT-100D when I switched on the MkV. I repeated this process a few times to
confirm that the hash across the HF band is coming from the FP-29 switched
mode power supply and MkV when they were switched on in turn. This hash was
most noticeable on 7MHz.

I also connected the random wire to the MkV and almost could not hear the
the signals which the FT-100D was receiving quite well.

My conclusion:

* The MkV must operate with a shielded coax antenna feedline not to receive
the FP-29 SMPS noise and its internal digital circuitry noise.

* Do not operate the MkV while another transceiver is using an end-fed
antenna which terminates at the operating position .

I will appreciate it if other MkV owners would listen to an HF receiver
under similar conditions and report their findings and comments.
