George,
I called Yaesu at 714-827-7600 on Friday, March 28. I had no problem reaching
customer service and, at my request, was forwarded to a service tech.
The problem with my MP is that it won't receive or transmit on 20 and 30. The
sub-VFO works, but all other functions don't. The tech could not recall having
previously dealt with this problem and did not give me a cost estimate. He did,
however, estimate a turnaround time of 3 - 4 weeks.
I don't think it's necessary to call before sending the radio. However, based
on my experience, I'd recommend calling. The tech with whom I spoke was
courteous, professional, and spent some time helping me diagnose the problem.
He told me to " double box " the radio (ship it in its original 2 cartons).
Good luck with your repair. 73, Bill, K3FMQ, Pipersville, PA
