[1000mp] which grounding is better?

Hello Steve,
It's a complicated issue, basically the 120 volts in your house is in
reference to ground. Keeping all the references (tower, radios, electrical)
at the same zero lowers the noise on a receiver. The majority of satellite
users understand this and maximize their receivers everyway possible.
Also for lightening protection for your equipment all the grounds need to be
tied together. For example, when lightening strikes it could be 100,000
volts at the strike point, and 90,000 volts 5 feet away and 40,000 volts 10
feet away. Keeping the grounds tied together keeps your radio from seeing
this voltage differential and everything rides up and down at the same rate.
I have found that it's a good idea to follow grounding techniques in the ARRL
Handbook for good station engineering, understanding them fully is secondary.
