The relay in the 1000MP is NOT like in some of the others, where you can 
only key a low voltage.  I key a Drake L4 with mine, no problem.  You will 
get others who say it is a good idea to put in either a switching transistor 
or another relay, and they are being a little more conservative, not 
necessarily a bad idea.
If you are into QSK, however, you will find that the little relay in the 
1000MP has to be switched off to silence it when you are QSK barefoot.  And 
to do that you have to swing the rig around so you can get to the back, get 
out a light or flashlight, get out your magnifying glass, find a tiny 
screwdriver, and flip a microswitch.  A pain.
