Thank you, Earl, for this and many other interesting and helpful posts.

An observation from A/B operation of an MP (with INRAD IF mod, AGC mod, and
audio hiss mod), and a K2 on 160 meters DURING the 160 contest, trying to
copy a weak signal amid S-9 signals...

Signals which could not be copied (by me) in the MP because the signal and
the background noise were pumping randomly with nearby strong CW signals,
could easily be copied in the K2 because that pumping was not happening in
the K2.  WithOUT contest circumstances, the MP had a slight advantage when
the DSP was used to improve signal noise.
