Mike - M5ACS,
Thanks Mike. Sounds like just what I need. Is the FRB-5 a Yaesu part or
accessory that I can get from a dealer or from the Yaesu parts department?

Terry,
I suggest you take a look at the Yaesu FRB-5. This is a small accessory for
the FT1000MP (and Field but not MKV) that does just what you want, extend
the
transverter switch outside of the rig.
The FRB-5 consists of a small board with a relay on, a couple of connectors,
and two cables, one of which you thread out the back of the MP the PA
heatsink - no holes to drill. It is intended to be used with the FTV1000 6M
transverter and uses a 28 volt feed from the transverter power supply to
operate a relay that replaces the transverter switch. The 28 volt feed holds
the relay in the 'normal' , when the FTV1000 is switched on the 28 volt feed
is removed and the MP switches to transverter mode.
If you can arrange for a a 28V (I guess 24V would be OK) feed then the FRB-5
could be your answer. Here in the UK an FRB-5 is about 14.00, so I guess it
should be under $20.
Hope this helps.
Regards
