[1000MP] Transverter Switching

Hello all,
A few weeks back I posted this question and received what I believed to be
the "quick fix" from Roger, W3SZ, who directed me to item 8-3 of the 'MP's
menu which would turn off the rig's PA allowing of the use of the
transverter port on the rear. Turns out that Roger has the Mark V and I
have the original (1998) FT-1000MP. The older FT-1000MP does not have a
menu 8-3 (has 8-2 and 8-4, but no 8-3) and Yaesu tells me there is no way to
get it, so no luck there.
So, here's what I am still hoping to do:
I recently completed building the DEM 50-28, 6M transverter for use with my
FT-1000MP. I am looking for someone who may have extended the FT-1000's
"transverter" slide switch (or duplicated its function) outside the radio's
housing to a more convenient location for easier access.
The switch, as you know, lies beneath the little hatch on the top of the
rig. In my station configuration, the top hatch is not easily accessible.
In adding the 6M transverter , I need easier access to the rig's transverter
switch in order to take advantage of the low power out of the transverter
port on the rear of the radio. I don't welcome the thought of sliding the
rig out from its resting point and accessing the slide switch under the top
hatch every time I'd like to check activity on 6M.
I'm relatively sure that someone must have tackled this before. The
modification is obviously not difficult, just paralleling the contacts to an
outboard switch, but I am looking for creativity, functionality and some
"idiot-proof" suggestions. Or, possibly, as Roger attempted to do, someone
who has another approach that requires no (or minimal) surgery to the radio.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Terry, WFM
