[1000mp] QUADRA question

Hi Dennis,
Glad I was able to be of some help. The Band Data 2 cable is normally
shipped with the Quadra outfit (at least it was with mine, in November
1998). This cable has a male DB15 plug at one end and a male RCA plug at
the other. Alternatively, Yaesu supplies the DB15 plug, in which case you
will need to make up your own cable.
To ensure proper auto-bandsetting and tuning operation, the Band Data 2
cable must be connected between the BAND DATA 2 socket on the Quadra and the
REMOTE jack (3mm mono phone jack) on the left rear panel of the exciter.
Refer to Fig. 2 on the webpage (link below) for the wiring. If the supplied
cable has an RCA plug, you can substitute a 3mm mono phone plug or make up
an adapter. (VL-1000 User manual, p.4.)
<http://www.qsl.net/ab4oj/quadra/interface_mp.html>
Without the Band Data 2 cable, the Quadra cannot key the exciter to request
a tuning carrier, you will not be able to sync the amplifier properly with
the exciter using [F SET] or [TUNE] unless you key the transceiver manually
in RTTY mode during the cycle, and ERROR #1008 may result. (VL-1000 User
Manual, pages 7, 13 and 15).
I drive my Quadra with an IC-756Pro2. As the Icom exciter does not support
the Band Data 1 protocol, the Band Data 2 cable is the only control
interface. To initiate a band-setting or tuning cycle, I need to select
RTTY mode, press [F SET] or [TUNE], then select the desired operating mode.
The referenced webpage explains the MP/Quadra interface in detail. If you
hook up the Band Data 2 cable and configure the transceiver menus as
described, everything should work fine.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Hi Adam,
Thanks for all of the great info and web site. I do not have the data cable
2 so the F-SET does not work. I have sent the QUADRA back today and ordered
a new one.
Thanks to all for your help.
