The longer it stays turned off, the longer it takes for the display to
turn on. In another word, if you turn the radio on every day the delay
is not even noticeable, if it stays off for a week or two when I go on a
trip or vacation it may take up to 10 seconds or more to turn on. At
least that is the case with mine. 73 Saad N5FF

Is this an unfortunate coincidence?
A commonly reported problem with the MP radios is a delayed turn on of
the
display. I think the problem is supposedly related to the high voltage
power
supply for the display?
I have had a Mark V for over 2 years and until yesterday I had not had
this
problem.
I always remove the antenna after using the radio, especially during
thunderstorm season. But last week I went on vacation and forgot to do
this.
There were numerous storms during my absence.
After my return, when I turned on the radio, for the first time ever the
display was blank for a few seconds. Then the radio worked normally.
Is this just a coincidence or is it possible that a static discharge
could
cause some damage to the display circuitry?
