[1000mp] delayed display turn on

Is this an unfortunate coincidence?

A commonly reported problem with the MP radios is a delayed turn on of the
display. I think the problem is supposedly related to the high voltage power
supply for the display?

I have had a Mark V for over 2 years and until yesterday I had not had this
problem.

I always remove the antenna after using the radio, especially during
thunderstorm season. But last week I went on vacation and forgot to do this.
There were numerous storms during my absence.

After my return, when I turned on the radio, for the first time ever the
display was blank for a few seconds. Then the radio worked normally.

Is this just a coincidence or is it possible that a static discharge could
cause some damage to the display circuitry?
