[1000mp] Heil Headsets and MP

Hi,
I can't support this statement. I use a Heil HC-4 with my FT 1000 MP (no
MARK V, no Field) and frequently I get "nice audio" comments *before* I
tell them what type of equipment I use.
You have to make sure that you don't overdrive the processor (if you use
it). Just 5 - 10 dB compression are more than enough.
My Mic-Gain is at 9-10, Proc also around 9-10. Proc-Settings is a little
bit band-dependant. Use the monitor to check the audio.
Never use any setting (menu 4-4) of the DSP transmit equalizer. That screws
up your audio.
Of course a HC-5 sounds a litte bit more pleasant and might be better
suited for rag-chewing and 9+20 signals. It sounds more smooth. But if we
deal with weak signals the HC-4 is unbeatable.
A HC-5 can be "converted" into a HC-4 using Proc and the transmit equalizer.
I also use a HC-4 with a Kenwood TS-440 and a FT 100. Both radios produce
very nice audio (according to comments I received).
