Jim,
I just did the mod yesterday to my 1000MP. The Inrad instructions are
complete and easy to follow. The IF board mod is very simple. The actual
mod to the RF board also is simple. The toughest part of the whole process
is getting the heatsink/fan assembly out of the way so you can get to the RF
board.
Using the 2nd receiver method that several have described, my sig went from
just over 2 kHz wide (clicks) to about 700 Hz.
I thought about the W8JI mod, but looking what the Inrad mod entails, it's
essentially the same thing. I do not understand why/how some people have
said they have both mods in place. They're essentially identical except that
Inrad gives you the needed components, and with W8JI's method, you must
"find" the value of 2 resistors.
At any rate, if you're comfortable with the soldering iron, the whole thing
takes about 45 minutes.
GL,
Steve
