Hi Barry N1EU and readers.
The modification to noise blanker is appropriate to all the 1000 series
rig's ( not quite sure about the field )
The dual gate fet in the input to the noise blanker is still producing some
gain ( guess abt 10/12db ) even though the blanker is switched off and front
panel level control fully anti clockwise.
Here are some voltage readings for your perusal
mod not fitted - tp2001 - noise blanker off front panel control anti cw =
1.26 volts.
-tp2001 - noise blanker off front panel control
clockwise = 2.56volts
- tp2001 - nb on, front panel control clockwise =
2.56 v
-tp2001 - nb on, front panel control anti cw = 1.26
v
mod fitted - tp2001 - noise blanker off front panel control anti cw =
0.36volts
- tp2001 - noise blanker off front panel control clockwise
= 0.45volts
As you can see the first fet is capable of quite some gain when noise
blanker switched off without the mod as a electroncs engineer explained to
me !
Hope the above is of interest
