I use mine to find station calling off-freq when running on VFO-A and doing
S&P (same band) on VFO-B. 

Otherwise I just use split between A&B just as K6SE described.

Ps> The CLAR is easy to replace and is about 5 minutes of work but takes
half an hour to get there. It's not rocket science and if you keep a good
record of what you have removed from there it can be done by anyone.
