[1000mp] 1000MP Clarifier Problem

In our contest station, we use lots of MPs, and virtually never use RIT.  
The trick is to set up the Split button properly:

Menu 8-2	A=B
Menu 1-6	0 kHz offset

Procedure:

Tune the band, calling guys.  Find a frequency for CQing, CQ and if 
you get answers, push SPLIT.  The frequency/mode from VFO A is 
transferred to B with a 0 kHz offset, and you are in split mode.  Not 
Dual, so the audio for VFO B does not get involved.  To un-split (for 
frequency defense, etc.), push the red "TX Switch/LED" above VFO A.  
To return to run mode after such a defense, push the red TX 
Switch/LED above VFO B.

Works very well.
