One example: If I'm running in a contest, I might simultaneously use the 
subreceiver to search for mults and therefore only want to devote VFO-A for 
run qso's.  RIT is quite handy, especially during the rare times that I 
switch in a 250hz filter during a cw contest.

I also find the RIT's "clear" button straightforward to use, and the Clar 
frequency display easy to read, as compared with going split while running.

FWIW, my 9XXXX MP had an encoder that jumped all over the place but my 8XXXX 
MP doesn't jump at all.
