[1000mp] 1000MP Clarifier Problem

I have a problem with my RIT and XIT on the 1000MP and suspect the =
clarifier may be faulty.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this =
problem and/or could offer some suggestions as to what the signal looks =
like coming out of the clarifier control in case I need to trouble =
shoot.
The problem is frequency jumps while turning the clarifier knob.  It =
happens in both RIT and XIT and happens more frequently when tuning down =
frequency.  The rx frequency will suddenly jump positive by as much as =
250Hz.  It happens less frequently if I turn the knob very slowly.  This =
sounds like it could be an optical control used for the clarifier, but I =
don't know.  It does not appear to be heat-related.  Also, does anyone =
know a replacement part for the clarifier?  I don't have the tech =
service manual.
