For those wondering about the receiver noise, be aware that menu item 8-4
will affect how much noise you hear on various bands.

If set to the "TUNED" preamp, 10m and 12m will have more gain (noise),
and these bands will have a better MDS and S/N ratio.  If set to "FLAT",
160m and 80m will have more gain.

If the preamp is set to "TUNED", 15m will sound quieter than 12m and 10m.
 If set to "FLAT", 12m and 10m might sound quieter than 15m.

The 40, 30, 20, 17 and 15-meter bands use a fixed preamp and are not
affected by menu item 8-4.  To turn all preamps off altogether, set the
front panel IPO switch to ON.
