[1000mp] Strange Workings of the Auto Tuner Mark V

Hello,

Has anyone seen this odd situation with their Mark V auto 
tuner.

It's like the tuner is acting in reverse. With the tuner 
OFF the swr indicator show 1.2 to 1 into my antenna with 
full output.An external SWR bridge confirms this reading. 
When I turn the tuner ON the power throttles back to 170 
watts and now I have 1.8 to 1 swr. Crazy!

On bands with a little higher swr 1.5 turning the tuner on 
raises the swr up to over 2 to 1. The front display 
clearly indicates when the tuner is off and on.

I would like to use the tuner mainly to tune out 
reactances between the Mark v and my amp. Up until now the 
tuner stays off.
