The other data point here is that the indicator may be set for a sidetone
that is different from what you prefer there ... <off hand I can't recall
the
factory default, another birthday just passed ... fewer working gray cells!>

Yes ... the trim tab is under the top "trap door" ... and check the early
archives for details. As I recall what I did was use the 'signal' from one
of the internal MENU settings <where you can adjust the tone to your
liking> and used that to readjust the CW TI to "center" at a much lower
sidetone, say 450 like I use here.

If you can't find the details in the archives, let me know and I'll see if I
made any notes in my service manual. Tweaking this may help, but the
CW TI is not that great a "bell/whistle", but sometimes is quite handy ...
