Subject: RE: [1000mp] FT-1000D computer controll questions
Early versions of the FT1000D responded with 1636 bytes of information when
asked to report status; this much information made it impossible to smoothly
track QSYs.
An updated ROM provided the optional ability to respond with 16 bytes of VFO
and Mode information. I do not know the specific ROM version in which the
smaller status report was implemented. Perhaps someone else on the reflector
can provide this information.
Commander, which is free, will provide transceiver control for your FT1000D;
its available via www.qsl.net/dxlab . The FIF232 inteface is simply a
bidirectional RS232 to TTL converter; you can easily implement this with a
MAX232 chip. You can power this chip from one of the serial port's modem
control signals -- DTR or RTS; just configured Commander to make the
appropriate signal "always on".
If Commander does not report your FT1000D's frequency and mode but otherwise
controls the radio and correctly reflects front-panel changes such as
enabling and disabling Split, then you need a ROM update. We can verify this
by capturing the message traffic between your PC and radio, a Commander
capability that is handy for debugging computer control problems.

I am wanting to run the FT 1000D via computer control and am looking for
anyone who has accomplished this. I have mutliple questions:
My D has ROM version 6.0 is this a problem
Any schematics for the FIF232 interface would be great!! Or where I can buy
a built unit other than from Yaesu - 100 bucks is rediculous
What software has anyone used with failure and great success
Is this radio easy to config for PC control
etc etc etc
any info would be greatly appreciated
