Thanks for the thoughts - Yes I did both.  This evening, the noise is a bit
lower in the South.

The most sigificant thing I changed is the IF gain - from 13 to 9.  I tuned
in a beacon, and lowering the gain made a significant difference with
respect to noise, but did not seemed to hardly reduce the amplitude of the
cw beacon.  I then went up to 11.  I'm going to experiment with that.  The
transverter seems to have a tremendous amount of gain - of course the IPO on
the Mark V is engaged per instructions.  Tom W6EIJ
