[1000mp] Mechanical x Crystal Filters

Eric - the two types of filters accomplish the same thing, but use
different technologies and have different shape factors.  There is a good
description of how mechanical filters work at

I don't have a reference handy for crystal filters, but the basics are in
the ARRL handbook.
