Firstly, check that you have a low SWR on 18 MHz, what ever antenna system
you are using.....If the SWR is too high, the tuner will not be able to tune
the load....

If the SWR is low, less than 3:1 to start with, then try a memory reset, as
per instructions in your manual.....This should then permit your tuner to
tune the load close to 1:1 SWR.....

I need some suggestions.

When I switch my FT-1000mp Field to 18 MHz and have the antenna tuner on,
the "wait" light stays lit continuously.  Also, it will not automatically
tune into a dummy load on 18 MHz.

The antenna tuner operates normally on all other bands.

Why does the "wait" light stay lit?  Any suggestions?
